The CNH Social project, brings the national driver's license to the population, being carried out by the Traffic Departments of the country, in partnership with the state governments.
However, such an initiative is not present in all Brazilian states.
CNH Social was created as a way to encourage and help low-income people to get their CNH, becoming qualified drivers.
This project was conceived in 2011 by SEST (Transport Social Service) and SENAT (National Transport Learning Service).
It is currently administered and promoted by DETRAN (State Department of Transit).
The project has had great growth, but it is expected to grow even more, as it will bring even more facilities to the citizen.
In conjunction with the CNH Social, other social programs may be added, such as eye tests, which are required to have the approval of the CNH and its licenses.
CNH Popular is a social program aimed at low-income people, who cannot pay the full amount, paying reduced amounts, or who cannot pay at all.
The project has benefited over 100,000 people so far.
How to get CNH Social?
To have your CNH Social, the person must meet one of the following requirements:
- Being a public school student;
- Can read and write;
- Be over 18 years old;
- Be unemployed for more than one year;
- Being an ex-convict;
- Receive monthly assistance of up to two minimum wages;
- Not having any other type of qualification.

Documents to participate in the project
Below, we list the documents required to obtain your CNH Social:
- Identification document: CPF, RG or Birth Certificate if you do not have the previous ones;
- Proof of residence: the electricity bill and the water bill are accepted, as long as it is up to three months;
- Proof of income: Employment Card of the person who will obtain the CNH and of the people who live in the same house;
- School record: for students.

- Take practical and theoretical courses;
- Carry out assessment exams;
- Carry out additional assessments;
- Have the requirements to verify participation in the program.

In order to register for the CNH Social project, interested citizens must access the Detran website in their state and follow the procedures described.
