A news It is a format for publicizing an event through journalistic means. It is the raw material of Journalism, normally recognized as some socially relevant data or event that deserves publication in a social media outlet.
Suits political, social, economic, cultural, natural and others, may be news if they affect individuals or groups significant to a given press vehicle.
News can be defined as a socially constructed product, as it is the result of the social positions of individuals and groups involved in journalistic production, and by the sources themselves that, according to Stuart Hall, act as primary definers of events. News is a condensation of these determinants into a socio-cultural product essential in the construction of processes, content and social relations.[1]
Generally, news has a negative connotation, precisely because it is exceptional, abnormal or has a great social impact, such as accidents, tragedies, wars e hit of state. News has journalistic value only when it has just happened, or when it has not been previously reported by any vehicle.
The “art” of Journalism is choosing topics that appeal to the public and presenting them in an attractive way. Not all journalistic text is news, but all news is potentially the object of journalistic investigation.[2]
Four main factors that influence news quality:[3]
- News: the news must contain life and life must contain new information, and not repeat what is already known.
- Proximity: the closer the location of the event is to the reader, the more interest the news generates, because it has a more direct impact on the reader's life.
- Size: both what is very large and what is very small attracts the public's attention.
- Relevance: News must be important, or at least significant. Banal, commonplace events are generally of no interest to the public.
